  • My blog post for week ten.

I do not own the following work and it is for my class.

Wearable health technology is all the rage right now. Research shows that almost one in three adults are using a wearable device like a smart watch to track health and fitness, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Companies like Google and Apple are investing in wearable technologies to help consumes track biometric data.

Spectroscopy recently spoke with Pete Richards, senior staff research scientist, at Google to discuss how the company is using light technology in its Fitbit and other wearable devices.

“Graphics processing units allow graphics programmers to create more interesting visual effects and realistic scenes with advanced lighting and shadowing techniques”, (Intel, https://www.intel.com, no date given).

“Other developers also began to tap the power of GPUs to dramatically accelerate additional workloads in high-performance computing (HPC), deep learning, and more” (Intel, https//intel.com, no date given).

Defragmentation of hard disk drives and solid state drives

“Defragmentation is the process of rearranging the data on a storage medium. When you perform defragmentation on a hard disk drive, it can improve your system’s speed and performance”, (TechTarget, 2023).

To summarize, do not defrag an SSDDefragmenting is not recommended for solid state drives. At best, it won’t do anything to help get a faster SSD drive, at worst, it will use up write cycles. If you have already defragged your SSD a few times, it won’t harm your SSD.

  • Blog post for Week Five

Hello Everybody! I hope everyone is doing well.

    Here is my post:

SD cards were first available in 1999, an SD card holding sixteen MB of data. The three companies, SanDisk, Panasonic (Matsushita), and Toshiba, wanted to invent, develop, and market a product that would be an improved product to compete against a competing company, Sony.  By 2006, SD cards could hold 2 GB of data.

It has become commonplace to use SD cards to hold data from digital cameras, smartphones, tablets, and portable gaming consoles. Advanced technology is finding new ways to improve, nevertheless.

Look for a new SD card early next year, in 2025, which will be able to hold four TB of data.

SD cards have three categories to which they may belong. These are value for money, performance, and their data amount capacity.

“The first hard disk drive was the IBM Model 350 Disk File and it was available in 1956.

It consisted of fifty 24-inch disks that could hold up to 3.75MB of data. It was a huge device, weighing over a ton, and had to be transported by forklift truck”, (https://www.dataclinic.co.uk)
